The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has closed sections of the Ashaiman China Mall warehouse over the sale and distribution of suspected substandard products. The affected sections contained items such as mattresses and electrical appliances believed to have been made with inferior materials. Bank of Ghana says Ghana’s public debt stock rose to GH¢674.1 billion as of February 2026, representing 42.2% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In dollar terms, the country’s total debt stood at US$63.1 billion, according to the Bank of Ghana’s May 2026 Summary of Economic and Financial Data. The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has denied claims that traders at the 31st December Makola Market were forcefully evicted, insisting the exercise is part of a planned redevelopment project to improve trading conditions in the capital. The World Health Organization will hold an emergency committee meeting as deaths from the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo continue to rise. Health officials say the death toll has increased to 131 from 513 suspected cases.
