Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has suspended all active firearm licences in Ghana with immediate effect. The directive took effect at 12 noon on Tuesday, June 23. The Interior Ministry has announced major changes to Ghana’s firearm licensing system. The reforms will require applicants to undergo mental health assessments, drug screening and firearms training before obtaining or renewing a licence. An Accra High Court has granted bail to social media blogger and Shatta Movement supporter Abdul Gafaru Sani, popularly known as Webkid or WebkidAfrika. The court set bail at GH¢100,000, ending more than six weeks of detention following his arrest on May 7, 2026. Up to 90% of children with sickle cell disease risk early death without timely care, says Dr. Bankas
Health experts have warned that many children born with sickle cell disease in Ghana could die before their fifth birthday without early diagnosis and proper treatment. Dr. Enam Sefakor Bankas, co-founder of Heale, said about 15,000 babies are born with the condition in Ghana every year. This represents around two per cent of annual births.
