An Accra High Court has granted bail to social media blogger and Shatta Movement supporter Abdul Gafaru Sani, popularly known as Webkid or WebkidAfrika.
The court set bail at GH¢100,000, ending more than six weeks of detention following his arrest on May 7, 2026.
Webkid, a salesman and blogger who lives at Community 1 Site 2 in Tema, is standing trial over allegations of publishing false news and engaging in offensive conduct directed at dancehall artiste Stonebwoy and members of his family.
Webkid’s lawyer confirmed that Stonebwoy, whose real name is Livingstone Etse Satekla, is the complainant named on the charge sheet.
The disclosure contradicts earlier claims by Stonebwoy’s camp that the arrest was not initiated by the musician.
Stonebwoy’s public relations representative, Vida Adutwumwaa, had previously said the authorities acted independently.
“It is not in Stonebwoy’s power to cause the arrest of anybody. All we saw was that there was a court order and the guy was picked up,” she stated.
Webkid faces charges under Section 76 of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), which deals with the publication of false news.
He is also facing charges of offensive conduct likely to breach the peace under Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
His original charge sheet was later withdrawn and replaced with a new one containing two additional counts, bringing the total number of charges to six.
Bail applications had been rejected on at least two earlier occasions.
On June 18, proceedings were adjourned because the presiding judge was absent. The case was moved to June 22, when the court granted bail.
Prosecutors allege that on November 11, 2024, Webkid used his X account to publish content that was false and capable of causing fear and panic.
According to investigators, the posts endangered the safety of Stonebwoy and his family.
They further claim the case originated in August 2025 after Stonebwoy discovered that several videos had disappeared from his YouTube channel.
Following internal investigations, suspicion reportedly fell on a former social media administrator identified as Casey Kobia. A complaint was then lodged with the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department before the matter was referred to the Cybercrime Unit.
Prosecutors allege that Casey Kobia contracted several bloggers, including Webkid, to post photographs of Stonebwoy, his wife and children with derogatory captions.
They argue that the coordinated posts created tension and amounted to conduct likely to disturb public peace.
Shortly after Webkid’s arrest, Shatta Wale defended him during a TikTok Live session.
The musician described the blogger as a hero and said criticism was part of the entertainment industry.
“It’s only a broke artist who arrests rival fans for speaking against him because you won’t get anything from the guy you have taken to court,” Shatta Wale said.
