The Bank of Ghana says current pressure on the cedi is temporary and there is no cause for panic. According to the central bank, Ghana’s reserve position remains strong enough to meet foreign exchange demand in the market. Sources familiar with the forex market say the country currently holds reserves of about $14.42 billion. Demand for foreign currency has increased mainly because of higher activity in the energy sector. International crude oil prices have also risen in recent weeks due to tensions involving the United States and Iran. The higher oil prices mean importers now need more dollars to buy…

The association says many hospitals still lack advanced imaging machines such as CT scans and MRI scanners. According to the group, the shortage affects the early detection and treatment of diseases. Speaking at the association’s 14th Annual General and Scientific Meeting in Accra, GAR President Francis Ofei urged government and stakeholders to improve healthcare facilities. “We need to retool our facilities across the length and breadth of the country with imaging modalities like CT scan, MRI, and others,” he said. The conference focused…

CEO of Dalex Finance, Joe Jackson, says rebuilding GN Savings and Loans will be difficult despite the court order restoring its licence. Speaking on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, May 23, he said restoring a licence alone does not bring a financial institution back to life. According to him, trust, capital, workers and customers are all needed for a bank to function properly. Mr Jackson said the company still faces major challenges even after the court ruling. “It is important for us to differentiate between two things: a functioning bank is not a license,” he said. “A functioning bank is…
Former Tema East MP Titus Nii Kwartei Glover has criticised the South African government over its handling of recent xenophobic attacks against foreign nationals. Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Monday, May 25, he described the government’s response as disappointing and inadequate. According to him, authorities in South Africa have failed to take proactive steps to protect migrants, including Ghanaians living in the country. His comments come as the first group of Ghanaians in South Africa prepares to return home on Wednesday. Mr. Glover said many Ghanaians living outside major cities such as Pretoria and Johannesburg may struggle to access…

Mexico defeated a youthful Ghana national football team side 2-0 in an international friendly at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla on Saturday morning. The match gave several Ghana Premier League players and U-23 prospects the chance to impress ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, the game also exposed the team’s lack of experience against a more organised Mexican side. New Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz and assistant Roger de Sá missed the match because of personal reasons. Ghana U-20 coach Desmond Offei took charge of the team on an interim basis. Mexico made a fast start and scored…

The United States has introduced a new immigration policy requiring most people seeking green cards to apply from outside the country. US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced the policy on Friday. The agency said immigrants seeking permanent residency must now complete the process through a US embassy or consulate abroad. Officials said only applicants facing “extraordinary circumstances” would qualify to remain in the US during the process. The move forms part of President Donald Trump’s broader immigration crackdown. The new rule ends a system that allowed some visa holders and visitors to apply for a green card while staying…
