Several passengers sustained injuries after a Kia truck loaded with yams collided with a VIP bus at Osino in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region in the early hours of Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
The accident occurred at about 4:30 a.m. near the Osino Clinic entrance, close to the Misa Filling Station, along the Kumasi-Accra Highway.
Preliminary reports indicate that the Kia truck, which was transporting yams from the Northern Region to Accra, veered into the path of the oncoming VIP bus after its driver allegedly dozed off behind the wheel.
In an effort to avoid a head-on collision, the VIP bus driver reportedly swerved off the road and into the Misa Filling Station. However, the truck still crashed into the bus, leaving several passengers injured.
No deaths had been reported at the time of filing this report.
Victims sustained bruises, head injuries and other bodily injuries. Some were treated at the Osino Clinic, while those requiring further medical attention were transferred to the Osiem Hawa Memorial Hospital.
Passengers who escaped with minor or no injuries remained at the scene awaiting onward transportation.
Personnel from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Ghana Police Service responded to the scene to manage traffic and clear the yams spilled across the highway to restore the free flow of vehicles.
Authorities are yet to determine the full extent of the injuries and damage caused by the crash. Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
