The Adenta Circuit Court has granted GH¢500,000 bail with two sureties each to Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena and eight other suspects over their alleged involvement in the shooting incident at Kwabenya in Accra.
The court granted bail when the accused persons appeared on Tuesday, June 23.
Akofena reported himself to police
Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena, the younger brother of former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, reported himself to the Greater Accra Regional Police Headquarters on June 22, 2026.
He later went to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, where officers questioned him over the incident.
Subsequently, police searched his vehicle and residence at Kwabenya.
During the operation, investigators recovered 120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition and 25 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition.
Police also retrieved loaded magazines and two Glock pistols. One of the pistols is registered in his name.
Nine suspects before court
Meanwhile, police later arrested Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson in connection with the case.
Their arrest increased the number of accused persons to nine.
The remaining six suspects are private security personnel who police detained at the scene of the incident.
All nine suspects appeared before the Adenta Circuit Court on Tuesday and secured bail.
The court adjourned the case to a later date for further proceedings.
Dispute linked to Kristo Asafo Mission
The shooting incident is connected to a long-running leadership dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission.
The disagreement emerged after the death of the church’s founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo, on September 11, 2025.
According to reports, disagreements over succession arrangements within the mission heightened tensions and eventually led to the June 21 shooting incident at Kwabenya.
Meanwhile, police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
