Residents and traders at Tesano Gardens Junction in Accra are calling for urgent road safety measures following the death of a motorcyclist in a crash at the intersection.
The accident occurred on Friday, June 12, near the Healing Jesus Campaign Office when a saloon car collided with a motorbike.
Residents Raise Safety Concerns
Residents say accidents occur frequently at the junction and fear more lives could be lost if authorities fail to act.
They are calling for the installation of traffic lights, speed ramps and other traffic-calming measures to improve safety at the intersection.
According to them, crashes happen almost every week, making the area a growing concern for both motorists and pedestrians.
Fatal Crash Sparks Renewed Calls
Speaking to Citi News, resident Ernestina Fiave said the latest incident has heightened fears among people who live and work in the area.
“There was a terrible accident which led to the death of one person. The driver of a saloon car knocked down a motorcyclist, and he died. We are appealing for a speed ramp to be constructed here,” she said.
Another resident said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The resident also claimed there was a delay in transporting him to the hospital.
The victim was later pronounced dead on Saturday.
Appeal to Drivers and Authorities
A third resident urged motorists to exercise caution when approaching the junction.
“Accidents happen here frequently, and it is becoming very worrying,” the resident said.
Residents are now appealing to the relevant authorities to intervene before another tragedy occurs.
They believe improved traffic management and road safety infrastructure will help reduce accidents and protect lives at the busy intersection.
