Shatta Wale Claims Government Owes Him GH¢5 Million: “Not a Penny”

Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale says he is yet to receive payment for promotional work he carried out during Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign, and claims officials have ignored his attempts to follow up.

Shatta Wale is demanding answers over an alleged GH¢5 million debt, saying he has not received payment for promotional work connected to Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign. The musician says the amount covers social media posts, advertisements, and other promotional activities he carried out to support the Black Stars.

According to Shatta Wale, the work was completed, but the payment never came.

    “Not a Penny”

During an interview with GHOne TV, Shatta Wale explained his frustration.

“Up till now, I have not been paid. For the postings and ads, a lot. I think now they owe me about GH¢5 million.”

When asked whether he had received anything toward the alleged amount, his response was blunt:

    “Oh, not a penny.”

He Says Officials Ignored His Calls

Shatta Wale also expressed frustration over his attempts to contact government officials.

He specifically mentioned the Sports Minister and claimed his calls were not being answered.

“You call the minister; he will not pick up. The deputy minister of finance will also not pick it. Disrespect, total disrespect in this country.”

    A Separate $100,000 Contribution

Shatta Wale’s alleged GH¢5 million debt should not be confused with the US$100,000 contribution he and his Hotwav team reportedly made toward the Black Stars’ World Cup efforts. The musician has maintained that the two matters are separate. His latest complaint is specifically about payment for promotional work he says he carried out. The government has yet to publicly respond to his specific GH¢5 million claim in the sources reviewed.

Shatta Wale’s claim has now raised questions about how entertainers are contracted and paid when they take part in government-backed promotional campaigns. For now, the GH¢5 million figure remains Shatta Wale’s allegation, while attention will be on whether the government responds.

Do you think Shatta Wale should receive the alleged GH¢5 million if he can prove the work was completed?
