What started as a shout-out to artistes who built their careers without wealthy family backing has turned into a heated exchange between Erigga and Davido.
A simple social media post about musicians and family wealth has suddenly turned into one of the biggest entertainment conversations of the day. Nigerian rapper Erigga praised artistes who did not come from wealthy families and had to struggle for every dollar they earned. Although he did not mention anyone by name, Davido appeared to take issue with the message and fired back.
Davido Enters the Conversation
Erigga wrote:
“Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn.”
Davido, whose father is a billionaire businessman, responded by defending musicians who came from privileged backgrounds but still worked hard to become successful.
He wrote:
“No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top.”
But Davido did not stop there.
He later described Erigga’s message as “useless motivation” and referred to the rapper as an “imbecile.”
Davido Says He May Leave Music
The argument took another turn when Davido suggested that he could eventually step away from music to concentrate on making even more money.
He reportedly said:
“I’ll soon leave music for you people.”
The comment has added another layer to the conversation, particularly because Davido is already one of Africa’s biggest music stars.

Some believe Erigga was simply celebrating artistes who came from humble backgrounds, while others think his post was an indirect jab at stars such as Davido who benefited from wealthy families.
