The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it will hold its National Delegates Conference on Saturday, September 19, 2026, where delegates will elect new national officers and deliberate on other key party matters.

The decision was taken by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and later approved by the National Council during separate meetings held on June 25, 2026.

    Delegates to elect national officers

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 8, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said the conference would be held in accordance with Article 10(1) of the NPP Constitution.

“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has fixed Saturday, September 19, 2026, as the date for its National Delegates Conference, at which delegates will, among other matters, elect National Officers of the Party pursuant to Article 10(1) of the Party Constitution,” the statement said.

The conference is expected to be one of the party’s most important internal events as it prepares for future political activities.

    Party invites constitutional amendment proposals

Ahead of the conference, the NPP has invited members and stakeholders to submit proposals for amendments to the party’s constitution.

According to the statement, the invitation is being made in line with Article 19(2) of the party’s constitution.

“Ahead of the conference, the General Secretary, acting pursuant to Article 19(2) of the Party Constitution, hereby formally invites proposals for amendments to the Party’s Constitution.”

The party said proposals can be submitted either physically to the Office of the General Secretary at the NPP’s national headquarters or electronically through nppconstitutionalamendment@gmail.com.

    July 17 submission deadline

The NPP has set Friday, July 17, 2026, as the deadline for submitting proposed constitutional amendments.

It encouraged members and stakeholders to actively participate in the review process to help strengthen the party’s internal structures.

“The Party encourages all members and stakeholders to take advantage of this constitutional review process by submitting proposals that will further strengthen the Party’s structures, enhance its internal democratic processes, and promote effective governance,” the statement said.

    Commitment to internal democracy

The party said the constitutional review forms part of its broader commitment to democratic governance and adherence to its constitution.

“As the Party prepares for its National Delegates Conference, it remains committed to constitutionalism, internal democracy, and the rule of law, ensuring adherence to the Party Constitution and its democratic traditions.”

The National Delegates Conference is expected to shape the party’s leadership and internal reforms ahead of future electoral contests.
