FIFA High-Performance Specialist Faisal Chibsah has expressed confidence that newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz will restore discipline and structure to the national team, which he believes had been lacking under the previous management.
The Ghana Football Association parted ways with Otto Addo following a string of four consecutive defeats in international friendlies, just months before the World Cup. Queiroz, the experienced Portuguese tactician, has since been appointed on a four-month contract to lead the team through the tournament.
Queiroz brings a wealth of international experience, having previously worked as assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and served as head coach of Real Madrid, among other global coaching roles.
Speaking to JoyNews, Chibsah said he is optimistic about the impact the 73-year-old will have on the Black Stars, particularly in instilling discipline and tactical identity within the squad.
“He will bring a bit of discipline to the team, which for me was lacking a lot. We would see [discipline] and also [Ghana would] definitely get an identity,” he said.
However, Chibsah cautioned that Queiroz’s success will depend on his ability to adapt to the Ghanaian football environment.
“The challenge for Carlos now would be how adaptable he can be taking on Ghana,” he noted, adding that “Iran, Oman, Qatar are not Ghana. Ghana, we expect more.”
Queiroz, for his part, has described his new role as “not just another job but a mission” as he prepares the Black Stars for the global tournament.
Ghana will compete in Group L against England, Croatia, and Panama, with the team aiming to reach the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time since 2010.
