The Rev. Jesse Jackson, a prominent civil rights activist, Baptist minister, and two-time Democratic presidential candidate, has died at the age of 84, his family announced Tuesday. In a statement, the Jackson family remembered him as a “servant leader” devoted not only to his loved ones but also to marginalized and oppressed communities around the world. “Our father was a servant leader not only to our family, but to the oppressed, the voiceless, and the overlooked around the world,” the family said. State prosecutors handling the corruption case against former National Service Authority Director, Osei Assibey Antwi, have indicated that they intend to revise the charge sheet filed against him. Assibey Antwi is on trial over allegations that he approved the payment of GH¢500,861,744.02 in allowances to more than 60,000 nonexistent national service personnel. The Accra Circuit Court has ordered a businessman in his 60s to pay a total of GHC200,000 to his former lover after finding that he breached a promise to marry her. The award comprises GHC50,000 in general damages and GHC150,000 in compensation, bringing the total financial judgment against him to GHC200,000. A group of teachers recruited in 2023 and posted to the Northern Region have petitioned the Ministry of Education, describing their situation as a “grave professional and financial injustice” after working for more than two years without pay.
