The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced a ban on drumming and noise-making from May 4 to June 4, 2026, within the Ga Traditional Area.
The directive, issued with the Ga Traditional Council, forms part of preparations for the Homowo Festival. Authorities say the measure will help maintain peace, harmony, and security during the period.
Under the guidelines, churches must hold services within their premises and avoid using musical instruments. The Assembly has also banned outdoor loudspeakers at churches, mosques, and pubs, while suspending roadside evangelism.
The directive further bars funeral rites and related activities during the period, in line with Ga customs.
AMA urged religious and traditional leaders to promote tolerance and avoid inflammatory remarks about other beliefs.
An authorised task force made up of AMA officials, the Ghana Police Service, and traditional council representatives will enforce the ban. The Assembly warned that no other group should attempt enforcement.
Residents have been asked to comply fully to ensure a peaceful observance.

The AMA also provided dedicated hotlines for further clarification and public inquiries.
