Stephen Amoah rejects Global InfoAnalytics MPs performance poll as ‘dangerous and baseless’

Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has strongly criticised a parliamentary performance survey conducted by Global InfoAnalytics, describing its findings as “dangerous” and lacking a credible basis.

The survey, led by pollster Mussa Dankwa, ranked Dr Amoah among MPs perceived to be underperforming. However, the lawmaker rejected the findings, arguing that the methodology used failed to reflect the constitutional responsibilities of Members of Parliament.

Addressing journalists in Parliament, Dr Amoah questioned the criteria used to assess MPs’ performance.

“What was the main or core functions of MPs that Dankwah Musa dwelt on? Then in my conversation with him he said ‘expectations of the constituency’ and he sent me a diagram including currency stabilisation, roads and all those things. I’m like wow, is that the functions of the MP? If currency stabilisation is not good, is it the MP? If the roads are not good, is it the MP?” he asked.

He argued that the survey gives the public a misleading impression of the work performed by legislators.

“I think we are doing this nation a great disservice. It is bad that people like us, who have done so much well, are being assessed this way,” he said.

Dr Amoah pointed to several development projects he has personally funded in his constituency, including the construction of a community library and a health support fund for NPP polling station agents, coordinators and party activists.

“Go and check in my constituency. As I’m talking to you now, I’m putting up a library for a whole community with my own pocket money. There are so many things I’m doing in my constituency,” he stated.

He maintained that the survey overlooks the broader contributions MPs make both inside and outside Parliament.

“This is very, very demotivating. This is very dangerous because I believe that with my performance within six years and the opportunity I had, I don’t think you can get more than 10 MPs to do what I’ve done,” he said.

Dr Amoah insisted that his legislative work, constituency engagements and development initiatives do not justify his inclusion among poorly performing lawmakers.

According to the June 2026 Global InfoAnalytics survey, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, MP for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, emerged as the highest-rated legislator with a 98% approval rating, while George Kwame Aboagye, MP for Asene-Manso-Akroso, recorded the lowest approval rating at 9%.

Other highly rated MPs included the representatives for Tolon and Tain (94% each), Navrongo Central (93%), Offinso North (91%), as well as Kpando and Tano North, both with 88% approval ratings.

Among the constituencies recording the lowest approval scores after Asene-Manso-Akroso were Takoradi (13%), Bosomtwe (15%), Achiase (16%) and Bole-Bamboi (21%).

Global InfoAnalytics said the survey forms part of its ongoing efforts to measure public perceptions of parliamentary performance across Ghana.
