The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has strongly denied reports claiming it is considering the sale of its newly constructed $260 million headquarters, describing the publication as false and misleading.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the central bank responded to a report published by MyJoyOnline on June 1, 2026, titled “Bank of Ghana considering sale of new $260m headquarters – sources.”
According to the Bank, there are no discussions, plans, or considerations underway regarding the sale of the facility.
“The Bank is not considering, discussing, or planning the sale of its new headquarters,” the statement said.
BoG explained that the headquarters was commissioned to support its operations and improve efficiency in carrying out its statutory responsibilities. It stressed that the building remains a critical asset to the institution.
The central bank urged the public and media organisations to disregard the publication, warning that unverified reports could negatively affect confidence in Ghana’s financial system and create unnecessary uncertainty in the market.
“We urge the public and the media to disregard this publication. Unverified reports of this nature have the potential to undermine public confidence in Ghana’s financial system and create unnecessary market uncertainty,” the Bank stated.
The Bank also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and said all official communications are disseminated through its established channels, including its website, verified social media platforms, press statements from the Communications Department, and signed statements from the Secretary of the Bank.
BoG further encouraged media organisations to seek clarification from the institution before publishing information concerning its operations.
