The funeral of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka has been thrown into uncertainty after a court injunction halted the burial, yet mourners have still gathered at Gomoa Mpota.

The funeral of Ghanaian inventor and industrialist Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka has taken another dramatic turn. What was expected to be a major farewell has now become a family and legal battle, with a court order putting the funeral arrangements on hold. But despite the injunction, mourners have arrived at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region to pay their final respects.

    WHAT IS HAPPENING?

An Accra High Court has issued a 10-day interim injunction restraining Sarah Adwoa Safo from proceeding with the funeral and burial arrangements. The court action follows disagreements within the Safo family over who has the legal authority to organize the funeral and how the late Apostle’s final wishes should be carried out. The Kantanka Family and Kristo Asafo Mission have maintained that the dispute involves the implementation of Apostle Safo’s will. According to the family’s position, some of the instructions in the will have not been followed, including issues surrounding custody of his remains.

ADWOA SAFO WANTED THE FUNERAL TO CONTINUE

Before the court injunction, Sarah Adwoa Safo had insisted that the funeral would proceed as planned. She also warned her brother, Kwadwo Safo Akofena, against disrupting the ceremonies and said security agencies had been contacted to provide protection during the funeral period. But the court’s intervention has now changed the situation.

    MOURNERS STILL ARRIVE

Despite the injunction, hundreds of mourners have gathered at Gomoa Mpota today, dressed mainly in the traditional red and black mourning colors. Police officers have also been deployed to the area to maintain security as uncertainty surrounds whether the burial will eventually take place. For many of those who traveled to the funeral grounds, the main concern is simply paying their last respects to a man remembered for his work in technology, manufacturing, religion and philanthropy.

    WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

The big question now is whether the family can resolve the dispute or whether the matter will remain in court. For now, the injunction remains in force, while mourners are already at the funeral grounds. This has left many Ghanaians asking: Will Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka finally be laid to rest, or will the family dispute delay his final farewell even further?

A funeral that was supposed to unite a family and honour the legacy of one of Ghana’s most recognisable innovators has instead become a major legal and family controversy. As the court battle continues, all eyes are now on the Kantanka family and on what happens next at Gomoa Mpota.

What do you think about the ongoing funeral controversy?
