Three people have been killed and nine others injured following a fresh attack on Odomi in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.

The attack occurred on Thursday evening when unidentified gunmen reportedly invaded the community, sparking fear among residents and escalating tensions linked to the long-running conflict in the area.

The injured victims were taken to the Nkwanta St. Joseph Catholic Hospital for treatment.

Hospital authorities confirmed that one of the injured victims died while receiving medical care.

Two other victims were brought to the facility already dead after they were reportedly attacked on their farms.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.

Security agencies, with support from military personnel, have stepped up patrols in and around the community following the latest violence.

Authorities say the increased security presence is aimed at restoring calm and preventing further attacks.

Investigators have yet to identify the attackers or establish the circumstances that led to the incident.

The latest attack comes just a week after the Oti Regional House of Chiefs announced plans to establish a seven-member committee to help address the protracted conflict in Nkwanta South.

The committee, which is yet to be inaugurated, is expected to engage key stakeholders and propose lasting solutions to the unrest that has affected several communities in the municipality.

The renewed violence is likely to heighten concerns over security in the area as efforts continue to find a sustainable resolution to the conflict.
