The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards in connection with the shooting of former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo.

The incident occurred in Kwabenya on Saturday, June 21, 2026.

In a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, police said officers recovered five pump-action guns during a search.

Investigators also retrieved a Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition. They found an extra magazine loaded with five rounds of 9mm ammunition and communication equipment.

Preliminary investigations show that officers from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate were on special duty when they received a distress call from a residence in Kwabenya.

Police said a ceremony was taking place at the home of Mr Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, also known as Akofena.

According to investigators, Adwoa Safo arrived at the residence and requested access. However, she was denied entry.

Police said armed security personnel at the residence allegedly fired their weapons during the incident.

The shooting reportedly injured Adwoa Safo. Investigators also found multiple bullet marks on her vehicle.

Police have transferred the six suspects and the seized weapons to the Police Headquarters to support ongoing investigations.

The statement added that efforts are underway to track down and arrest other people linked to the incident.
