The Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency (MoFFA) has strongly condemned the transportation of a corpse on a motorcycle in a viral video that is believed to have originated from the Oti Region.
In a statement dated May 11, 2026, the agency described the act as “unprofessional, undignified, and a clear violation of established public health and death care standards.”
The footage, which has circulated widely on social media, shows the lifeless body of a person tied to the back of a motorcycle while being transported.
MoFFA emphasized that the handling and movement of human remains must always be done with dignity and in line with approved safety and public health protocols. It stressed that only licensed hearses or specially approved vehicles are permitted for transporting corpses.
The agency warned that improper handling of dead bodies could pose serious health risks, including the spread of infectious diseases, environmental contamination, and broader public safety concerns.
It therefore urged funeral service providers, practitioners, and the general public to strictly adhere to regulations governing the storage and transportation of human remains.
MoFFA also called on stakeholders in the death care industry to maintain professionalism and uphold ethical standards that respect the dignity of the deceased at all times.
The agency further disclosed that it is working with relevant authorities to investigate the incident and gather more information surrounding the viral video.
It reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health, ensuring professionalism within the sector, and protecting the dignity of the dead.
