Sammy Kuffour has called on Ghanaians to unite behind incoming Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, urging patience and collective support as the national team enters a new phase.
Queiroz is expected to take over from Otto Addo, with his official unveiling anticipated later this week. The seasoned coach, known for his experience across international football including in Africa has been tasked with revitalizing the Black Stars and steering Ghana toward a fifth FIFA World Cup appearance.
His tenure is set to begin quickly, with international friendlies against Wales and Mexico lined up in May. Focus will then shift to the World Cup in June, where Ghana faces a tough group featuring England, Croatia, and Panama.
Amid concerns from some fans about Queiroz’s defensive style, Kuffuor dismissed the criticism, arguing that Ghana has not been particularly attacking in recent years. Referencing past tactical setups, he suggested the concerns may be overstated.
He emphasized that with the appointment already confirmed, attention should turn to supporting the coach rather than debating his methods. According to Kuffuor, persistent criticism could hinder progress and disrupt the team at a critical moment.
The former Bayern Munich defender also stressed the importance of unity among supporters and stakeholders, noting that backing the coach is essential regardless of differing views.
Kuffuor further advised Queiroz to build a strong technical team with in-depth knowledge of Ghanaian football. He encouraged the inclusion of individuals who understand the local game and have firsthand experience within the system.
As anticipation grows ahead of Queiroz’s official unveiling, expectations remain high for the Black Stars. With the World Cup approaching, the coming weeks will be crucial—and Kuffuor’s message is clear: unity and support could play a decisive role in Ghana’s success on the global stage.
