Officers of the Ghana Police Service on Thursday carried out a special operation across parts of Accra, including the busy Madina Market, in a renewed effort to clamp down on suspected criminals and unlawful activities in the capital.

The exercise saw heavily armed police personnel deployed to strategic locations within the market and surrounding communities as officers conducted searches and interrogated individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities.

According to sources, the operation formed part of a wider security strategy aimed at improving public safety and restoring order in areas considered crime-prone within the city.

Traders, commuters and residents looked on as police officers patrolled the market, checked vehicles and monitored movements in and around the commercial hub.

Although details of arrests or items retrieved during the operation were not immediately disclosed, police officials indicated that similar exercises would continue in other parts of Accra to deter criminal activities and ensure the safety of residents.

The operation comes amid growing concerns over theft, robbery and other forms of criminal activity in some parts of the capital.
