The government has imposed a curfew on several communities in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region after a deadly attack left three people dead and nine others injured.
Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak announced the measure on the advice of the National Security Council. The curfew takes effect on Friday, June 19, 2026.
It will run daily from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice.
The affected communities are Keri, Abrewanko, Abrewanko Junction, Nyambo, Nyambo Junction, Shari, Kromase, Power, Nyakoma, Odomi, Bonakye and Nkwanta.
Government appeals for calm
The government has urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth groups and residents to remain calm and support efforts to restore peace.
Authorities encouraged residents to use dialogue and lawful channels to resolve disputes. They also urged community members to avoid violence.
Weapons ban announced
The government has also banned the possession and carrying of arms, ammunition and other offensive weapons in the affected communities.
Authorities warned that security agencies will arrest and prosecute anyone who violates the directive.
Attack prompts security measures
The curfew follows an attack in Odomi on Thursday, June 18, which increased tensions across the municipality.
The incident killed three people and left nine others with gunshot injuries.
Officials say the curfew will help maintain law and order while security agencies work to prevent further violence and restore calm.
