The Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) has arrested four persons linked to the PDS scandal.

The arrests took place last week as part of investigations into the transfer of large sums of money believed to belong to the Electricity Company of Ghana.

The suspects are Philip Ayensu, Viraj Phat, Sophia Korkor and Justice Menka-Premoh.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu disclosed this in a Facebook post on Monday, May 4.

“The Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) arrested the following persons affiliated to PDS last week as part of investigations into the transfer of large sums of money believed to belong to ECG,” he wrote.

    2. Viraj Phat
    3. Sophia Korkor
    4. Justice Menka-Premoh

“The quartet have since been granted bail pending further investigations,” he added.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu said the arrests form part of Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL).

The development follows earlier concerns about the PDS deal, which led to a reported loss of about $190 million.

During the 2024 election period, John Dramani Mahama pledged to investigate the matter.

“It’s disheartening to learn that the $190 million we negotiated for private sector participation in electricity distribution under the US Millennium Compact has been lost due to Nana Addo and Bawumia’s corrupt, ‘yenkyendi,’ and cronyism governance practices. This is unacceptable, and we deserve better as a people,” he said in a Facebook post on May 10, 2024.

He added that his administration would prioritise accountability and ensure a full investigation into the scandal.

“My administration will prioritise accountability and ensure a thorough investigation of the PDS scandal to hold those involved accountable.”
