More than 500 children with suspected and confirmed measles cases have died in Bangladesh since March, according to the country’s health ministry. The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department has announced the start of payments for outstanding arrears owed to workers in the education and health sectors. The Department said the unpaid arrears date back to August 2024. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the CAGD said the arrears would be paid in four equal instalments over the next few months. According to the Department, the payment plan will run from May to August 2026. The first instalment is expected to be completed by Friday, May 29, 2026. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says government has completed arrangements to receive the first group of Ghanaians being evacuated from South Africa. The evacuation follows reports of xenophobic attacks in the country. Mr. Ablakwa said the government is committed to helping the evacuees return home safely and rebuild their lives. Environmental Protection Authority (Ghana) has announced a nationwide ban on the production, importation, sale, and use of polystyrene foam products, commonly known as styrofoam, effective January 1, 2027. The directive forms part of government efforts to reduce plastic pollution, improve sanitation, and protect the environment.
