The World Health Organization will hold an emergency committee meeting as deaths from the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo continue to rise. Health officials say the death toll has increased to 131 from 513 suspected cases. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he is deeply concerned about the speed and scale of the outbreak. The Ghana National Fire Service has contained a fire outbreak at the Coral Paint headquarters in Adabraka, Accra. According to the GNFS, firefighters from the Industrial Area Fire Station responded after receiving a distress call through the Fire Master Control at about 12:38 p.m. The fire crew arrived at the scene around 12:49 p.m. and found that the blaze had affected a recording studio on the second floor of the building. Ghana Statistical Service has ranked Ablekuma North Municipal as the best-performing district in Ghana under the latest Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI). The report covers the period from 2021 to 2025 and measures poverty beyond income levels. According to the report, Ablekuma North recorded an average poverty headcount of 8.5 percent over the five-year period. The district also remained among the top 10 best-performing districts every year. Ablekuma West Municipal followed with an average poverty incidence of 8.6 percent, while Korle Klottey Municipal recorded 8.8 percent. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced plans to evacuate the first batch of 300 Ghanaians from South Africa following renewed xenophobic attacks. The evacuation is scheduled for May 21 through a special chartered flight. According to the ministry, the flight will depart at 5:00 a.m. from O.R. Tambo International Airport.
