Asante Kotoko vs Berekum Chelsea: Full Match Breakdown After 0-0 Ghana Premier League Goalless Draw

On Sunday, 11 January 2026, Asante Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea drew 0-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in a closely contested Ghana Premier League Week 18 match, leaving both clubs with the same points but still looking for offensive breakthroughs.

From the start, Asante Kotoko were determined to take over possession and create scoring opportunities against Berekum Chelsea’s solid defense. Despite having the majority of the ball (about 56% possession and several tries forward), Kotoko struggled to turn pressure into obvious goals.

Kotoko’s front line constantly tested Chelsea’s defense but they were missing a cutting edge in the final third. The hosts had many promising chances, including long-range shots and set-piece entries, but just three really challenged the visiting goalie.

Berekum Chelsea, on the other hand, absorbed pressure via resilience and tactical organization, denying Kotoko’s clear opportunities and managing occasional counterattacks. Despite having fewer shots overall, Chelsea generated dangerous moments with direct play and looked dangerous on the counterattack.

    Defensive Discipline and Key Performers

The defensive structures of both teams were a feature of the game. Kotoko’s backline held firm under pressure, while Chelsea’s defense remained tight and disciplined, resulting in a scoreless draw at the end of the game.

Goalkeeper performances were also critical, particularly those of Chelsea’s shot-stopper, who produced a handful of crucial saves to halt Kotoko’s advances. Kotoko’s defenders also blocked several dangerous deliveries, helping their team keep a clean sheet.

The match’s tension reached a peak late on when Berekum Chelsea head coach Samuel Boadu was thrown out after an altercation with referee George Mawuli Vormawor. The dismissal added another element of intrigue and frustration for Chelsea as they attempted to steal a late goal. Meanwhile, Kotoko head coach Karim Zito is under pressure to ignite more consistent attacking output from his side, particularly following recent results in which the team has struggled to find the back of the net while dominating possession.

The 0-0 draw has mixed implications for both Asante Kotoko and Brekum Chelsea. For Asante Kotoko, the stalemate means the Porcupine Warriors lose precious points at home as they pursue league leaders and try to strengthen their grip on the top half of the table. Their failure to turn pressure into goals remains an issue. Brekum Chelsea on the other hand, the Blues’ disciplined defensive performance and vital away point will provide a morale boost, especially against a traditionally better Kotoko team. The tense environment and controversial sending-off may also emphasize Chelsea’s fighting spirit late in games.
