Thomas Partey visa denial and World Cup update

Ghana’s Sports Minister, Kofi Adams, said he is not aware of any visa denial for midfielder Thomas Partey to enter Canada for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He noted that Partey had earlier faced challenges with a U.S. visa but has since been cleared to enter the U.S.

The Minister confirmed ongoing visa discussions for coach Carlos Queiroz’s wife, but no issues have been reported regarding Partey.

The English FA is reportedly considering whether England players should participate in the traditional pre-match handshake with Partey when Ghana faces England on June 23, given the serious charges against him.

Partey faces multiple rape and sexual assault charges in London. His trial, initially scheduled for November 2026, may be delayed until 2027. He has pleaded not guilty and remains on bail with travel restrictions.

Ghana will play Panama (June 17), England (June 23), and Croatia (June 27) in Group L. Partey, with 57 caps, featured in the recent friendly against Wales.
