The United Party has dismissed suggestions that its leader, Alan Kyeremateng, should rejoin the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing such calls as disrespectful and politically inappropriate.
Director of Communications Solomon Owusu criticized recent appeals for NPP’s 2028 flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to include Mr. Kyeremateng in reconciliation efforts, stressing that he now leads an established political party.
“It’s rather unfortunate that some elements within the political space want to disrespect the personality of Mr Alan Kyeremateng,” Owusu said, adding that it would be unreasonable to expect him to abandon his current political movement.
The remarks come as Dr Bawumia begins outreach to former party stalwarts and elders, with NPP Communications Chairman Nana Akomea naming Kyeremateng among figures who could be engaged in unity talks.
Mr. Kyeremateng broke away from the NPP ahead of its presidential primaries, citing unfair treatment, and later founded the Movement for Change, which has since evolved into the United Party.
