Agbodza reassigns Bogoso–Prestea road project after contractor’s poor performance

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has reassigned the Bogoso–Prestea road project to a new contractor following delays and poor performance by the previous contractor, Black Oak.

The minister announced the decision while appearing before Parliament’s Committee on Economy and Development on Wednesday, June 10.

Mr Agbodza said the Ministry of Roads and Highways and the Ghana Highways Authority made several efforts to get the contractor to speed up work on the project.

However, he noted that those interventions failed to produce the expected results.

The 23-kilometre road has become a major concern for residents and traditional authorities because of its poor condition and the slow pace of construction.

According to the minister, officials repeatedly engaged the contractor in an attempt to improve performance.

Mr Agbodza said he decided to remove the contractor after inspecting the project site and assessing the level of progress.

“So when we went to the site, I asked him to step aside. I asked the contractor to leave the site, and as I speak to you, a new contractor has mobilised to do the work,” he told the committee.

He confirmed that the new contractor has already moved to the site and begun preparations to continue the project.

The minister stressed that the decision was necessary to avoid further delays and ensure the completion of the important road project.

He noted that the Bogoso–Prestea road serves several communities and plays a vital role in transportation and economic activities in the area.

According to him, government remains committed to improving road infrastructure and ensuring that contractors meet agreed standards and timelines.

Mr Agbodza said the reassignment followed persistent concerns about the contractor’s inability to deliver satisfactory results.

He added that work on the project had fallen far below acceptable standards, making intervention unavoidable.

The ministry expects the new contractor to accelerate construction and help bring the long-delayed project to completion.
