Kofi Adams: Queiroz has not formally resigned as Black Stars coach

Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Iddie Adams has clarified that Carlos Queiroz remains the head coach of the Black Stars, insisting that neither the government nor the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has received a formal resignation from the Portuguese tactician.

Queiroz sparked speculation over his future after sharing a letter of appreciation on social media following Ghana’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Many interpreted the message as his resignation after leading the Black Stars at the tournament.

However, Adams says the authorities can only act on official communication and not social media posts.

    No official resignation received

Speaking to Joy News, the Sports Minister dismissed suggestions that Queiroz had stepped down.

“We have not received any resignation letter from the FA to that effect, and I don’t take it that people resigned on social media. He wasn’t appointed on social media, so I don’t think that he resigned via social media,” Adams said.

He stressed that until the appropriate procedures are followed, Queiroz remains Ghana’s head coach.

    Government awaits technical report

Adams said the next step is for Queiroz to submit a comprehensive technical report on Ghana’s World Cup campaign.

According to him, the report will provide a detailed assessment of the team’s performances and identify areas that require improvement.

“We have all been watching the games, and so we all appreciate that. We have not had the opportunity to engage him to get a detailed report. That report will surely come,” he added.

The Minister explained that the document will help shape decisions about the future of the Black Stars and guide discussions on the team’s technical direction.

    Rebuilding the Black Stars

Adams also backed Queiroz’s view that the senior national team needs a rebuilding process after the World Cup.

He said any decision regarding the coach’s future or changes to the technical team would follow consultations and a careful review of the report, rather than speculation.

The Black Stars reached the Round of 32 at the expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Colombia.

Although Queiroz’s social media post has fuelled uncertainty over his future, Adams insists no decision can be taken until the official process has been completed.
