Eight countries have officially been eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after failing to qualify for the knockout stage.

With the expanded 48-team tournament nearing the end of the group stage, eight nations have already seen their campaigns come to an end. A total of 16 teams will be eliminated before the Round of 32 begins.

Several teams were knocked out after losing their opening two matches, leaving them with no chance of advancing. Others were eliminated after finishing bottom of their groups following the final round of fixtures.

The eight nations confirmed to be out of the tournament are:

    • Haiti
    • Turkey
    • Tunisia
    • Jordan
    • Panama
    • Qatar
    • Czech Republic
    • Curacao

Haiti’s first World Cup appearance since 1974 ended in disappointment after defeats to Scotland and Brazil in Group C.

Turkey became the first European nation eliminated after successive losses to Australia and Paraguay. The Czech Republic also exited after finishing bottom of their group.

Tunisia are currently the only African side guaranteed to leave the tournament at the group stage after suffering heavy defeats to Sweden and Japan.

Tournament newcomers Jordan became the second Asian nation eliminated, joining hosts Qatar, who finished bottom of their group despite earning one point.

In Group L, Panama were knocked out after narrow 1-0 defeats to Ghana and Croatia.

Curacao, another World Cup debutant, became the latest nation eliminated after losing their final Group E match against Ivory Coast.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup features an expanded 48-team format. Teams that finish bottom of each group are eliminated, along with the four third-placed teams with the weakest overall records.

This edition of the tournament also uses head-to-head results as the first tiebreaker for teams level on points, replacing goal difference as the primary deciding factor.

The remaining group-stage matches will determine the final eight teams to be eliminated before the Round of 32 gets underway.
