VFS Global warns Ghanaians against visa scams, promotes group application service

VFS Global has warned Ghanaians to be careful of visa fraud and use only official channels when applying for visas.

The company said some agents and middlemen continue to mislead applicants. They often promise faster appointments or guaranteed visa approvals in exchange for money. VFS Global stressed that no third party can influence visa decisions or appointment availability.

The warning comes as visa applications continue to increase, especially during busy travel periods for students, families, business travellers, sports teams, and organised groups.

    Use only official channels

Prashant Kansara, Regional Head for Central and West Africa at VFS Global, said trust remains central to the visa application process.

He explained that VFS Global only manages the administrative side of visa applications on behalf of partner governments. He urged applicants to rely on official VFS Global platforms for information and bookings.

The company also reminded the public that only embassies and consulates decide whether a visa is approved or rejected.

    Measures introduced to fight fraud

VFS Global said it has introduced several measures in Ghana to reduce fraud.

These include one-time password (OTP) appointment verification, application reference checks, anti-fraud awareness campaigns, and controlled entry into Visa Application Centres.

The company said these measures help protect applicants and improve transparency throughout the application process.

    Group booking service gains attention

VFS Global also highlighted its group booking service. The service helps coordinate visa submissions for students, schools, companies, sports teams, families, and travel groups.

According to the company, the service makes it easier for groups to submit applications together, especially during peak travel seasons.

However, VFS Global emphasised that the service does not guarantee faster processing, earlier appointments, or visa approval.

    Gbese delegation praises service

The company cited a testimonial from the Office of the Paramount Chief of Gbese. The office used the service for participants attending the first Gbese Mantse Homowo Festival and Business Summit in the Netherlands in September 2025.

His Royal Majesty Nii Ayi-Bonte I praised the professionalism shown during the application process. He noted that collecting applications directly from the chief’s office made the process more convenient for members of the delegation.

    Optional services available

VFS Global also offers optional services approved by partner governments.

These include form-filling assistance, courier passport delivery, SMS notifications, Premium Lounge access, and mobile services such as “Visa At Your Doorstep.”

The company stressed that these services are optional and clearly priced. They do not affect visa decisions or processing times.

VFS Global has operated in Ghana since 2005. The company currently serves 19 client governments through 23 visa application centres across the country. It also employs about 100 Ghanaian staff members.
