The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a thunderstorm alert for several parts of the country, warning residents to prepare for heavy rainfall and strong winds.
The alert, issued at 8:23 a.m. on Wednesday, follows observations of rain and thunder-bearing clouds developing along Ghana’s southeastern and northeastern borders.
According to GMet, the weather system is expected to bring cloudy conditions and rainfall of varying intensity to the Volta, Greater Accra and Eastern regions during the morning hours.
The agency said the storms could be accompanied by gusty winds and periods of heavy rainfall in some locations.
GMet indicated that the weather conditions will gradually extend to parts of the Upper East and North East regions before spreading into sections of the Upper West, Savannah and Northern regions later in the day.
The agency warned that a significant portion of northern Ghana could experience thunderstorms and rainfall from late morning through the afternoon.
The weather advisory has been classified as a moderate threat level and remains in effect until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Residents in affected areas have been urged to monitor official weather updates and remain alert as conditions evolve.
GMet has advised the public to avoid outdoor activities during heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
Residents have also been cautioned to stay away from flooded roads, drains and waterways, which may pose safety risks during periods of intense rainfall.
Motorists and commuters have been urged to exercise caution, especially in flood-prone and low-lying areas where sudden flooding could occur.
The agency encouraged the public to rely on official weather bulletins and alerts for the latest information on the developing weather conditions.
