NACOC seizes 5 million Tapentadol tablets, arrests four in major drug bust

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has seized 5 million tablets of Tapentadol (250mg) in a major anti-drug operation, arresting four suspects linked to the shipment.

The consignment, which was being transported in a 40-foot trailer, was intercepted during an intelligence-led operation while en route to Niger.

Authorities describe the bust as one of the largest pharmaceutical drug seizures in recent times, highlighting the scale of the illicit trade in controlled substances across the region.

In a statement issued on April 30, 2026, NACOC confirmed that the four suspects are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. The individuals are believed to be part of a wider trafficking network involved in moving regulated drugs across international borders.

Tapentadol is a potent opioid used for pain management but is strictly controlled due to its high potential for abuse and dependency.

NACOC says it is intensifying surveillance and enforcement efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking and related crimes. The Commission is also working with international partners to trace the origin of the consignment and identify its intended distribution channels.

Officials say efforts are underway to dismantle the broader network behind the shipment as part of ongoing operations to curb the flow of dangerous drugs.
