The Nsuta Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region has fined 40-year-old driver Azizu Charles GH¢2,400 for dangerous driving and causing harm. In default, he will serve one year in prison after pleading guilty to the charges.

Presiding judge, His Lordship Simon Nketia Gagah, delivered the ruling on April 29, 2026. Prosecutor, Detective Chief Inspector Kofi Owusu Kodua, told the court that the incident occurred on March 14, 2026, along the Kumasi–Mampong highway near Kona.

According to the prosecution, the convict was driving a Toyota Hiace commercial bus with 14 passengers from Kumasi to Wiamoase when he veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a Nissan Caravan bus driven by Isaac Ofori, who was also transporting 14 passengers from Agona to Kumasi.

The court heard that several passengers in both vehicles sustained injuries. Some received treatment and were discharged the same day, while others were admitted for a few days.

Investigations found that the convict drove recklessly and without due care, leading to the crash and injuries.

The prosecution said the convict had not paid compensation to the victims or the owner of the damaged vehicle before the case.

However, since both vehicles were insured and properly licensed, the court advised victims to seek compensation through their insurance providers.
