Ghana’s football community is in mourning following the tragic death of Dominic Frimpong, a player for Berekum Chelsea, who died after sustaining gunshot wounds during a robbery attack on the team’s bus.

The incident occurred along the Goaso–Bibiani road near Ahyiresu in the Ahafo Region, where armed assailants reportedly blocked the road and opened fire on the vehicle. Players and club officials were forced to abandon the bus and flee into nearby bushes to escape the robbers.

The club confirmed that Frimpong suffered severe gunshot injuries to the head. He was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital for emergency treatment and was being prepared for transfer to a more advanced medical facility when he passed away.

Frimpong had joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January, with the deal set to run until the end of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season. He had quickly established himself as a promising talent, making 13 league appearances and scoring two goals during the current campaign.

His death has sent shockwaves across the Ghanaian football fraternity, raising fresh concerns about the safety of teams traveling for matches. Authorities are expected to launch investigations into the attack as calls grow for improved security measures for clubs on the road.
