    Addo Questions Players’ Attitude Following 5-1 Loss to Austria

    Head coach Otto Addo has expressed disappointment with the attitude and body language of the Black Stars following their heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria national football team, describing the team’s reaction during difficult moments as a major concern.

    Speaking ahead of Ghana’s upcoming friendly against the German national football team, Addo acknowledged that while the scoreline may not have fully reflected the balance of play, the team’s mentality after going behind was troubling.

    “What concerned me most was the body language and how we reacted after conceding,” he noted.

    The Black Stars showed flashes of promise in the first half and created opportunities that could have altered the course of the game. However, once Austria took control, Ghana struggled to regain composure and respond effectively.

    Addo emphasised that even at 2-0 down, the match was still within reach, but the team failed to demonstrate the resilience required to mount a comeback.

    He also highlighted a lack of leadership on the pitch, stressing the need for experienced players to guide the team during periods of pressure and prevent a complete breakdown in structure.

    “This is where leadership is crucial; players must step up and help the team stay focused rather than fall apart,” he said.

    Despite pulling a goal back to make it 3-1, Ghana was unable to build momentum, exposing deeper issues in both mentality and organisation.

    The coach further pointed to lapses in defensive transitions, noting that the team’s inability to maintain structure made them vulnerable.

    “We need to be quicker and more organised defensively. When we lose shape, we face serious problems,” he added.

    With a high-profile clash against Germany approaching, Addo believes the team must show significant improvement—not only in performance but also in attitude. He stressed that a stronger mentality, better organisation, and greater resilience will be key as the Black Stars look to respond positively to the setback.
