The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has assured residents of the Ashanti Region that the party remains firmly committed to delivering on its campaign promises following its victory in the 2024 general election.
Speaking at Nsuta Kwamang Beposo during the opening of his Ashanti Regional “Thank You Tour,” Mr. Asiedu Nketia emphasised that the NDC would honour the commitments it made to the people and traditional authorities in the region.
He explained that the tour was not only intended to express appreciation for the support received but also to mark the beginning of a renewed focus on accountability, with the party set to regularly evaluate its performance against promises made to Ghanaians.
According to him, despite inheriting significant economic and governance challenges, the administration led by John Dramani Mahama has begun implementing measures aimed at stabilising the country and improving living conditions.
He pointed to ongoing initiatives in sectors such as education and water supply as early indicators of progress, noting that these efforts have begun to gain recognition, including from some members of the opposition.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia also highlighted the broad support the NDC received during the elections, stating that many Ghanaians across political lines rallied behind the party out of concern for the country’s direction and a shared desire for change.
Touching on internal party matters, he called for unity and cautioned against divisions over positions. He stressed the importance of retaining experienced party officials who played key roles in the 2024 electoral success, warning that unnecessary internal changes could weaken the party’s prospects ahead of the 2028 elections.
At the same time, he advocated for the removal of underperforming officials while encouraging sustained grassroots mobilisation and continuous engagement with communities across the region.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia concluded by expressing gratitude to chiefs, the clergy, party branches, assembly members, and financial supporters, acknowledging their collective contribution to the party’s victory and reaffirming the NDC’s commitment to inclusive governance and national development.
