A reported bid by broadcast journalist Captain Smart to contest the Gomoa West parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sparked opposition from within the party.
The move has been publicly criticised by suspended Awutu Senya East Constituency Chairman, Stephen Ofosu Agyare, popularly known as TK, who says he will campaign against the broadcaster if he is selected as the party’s parliamentary candidate.
In a video circulating on social media on Friday, July 24, 2026, TK questioned Captain Smart’s suitability to represent the NDC in the constituency.
He argued that the broadcaster has built his public image by criticising politicians and questioned why he now reportedly wants to enter active politics.
“If NDC people allow Captain Smart to contest for the Gomoa West parliamentary seat on their ticket, they will hear from me,” TK said.
TK accused Captain Smart of frequently attacking politicians and insisted that such a record makes him unsuitable to become a Member of Parliament.
“Captain Smart insults politicians and now wants to become a Member of Parliament. He is a stomach journalist. I will go to Gomoa and campaign against him,” he stated.
The reported parliamentary ambition has generated discussion on social media and within political circles.
However, there has been no official confirmation from either Captain Smart or the National Democratic Congress regarding his intention to contest the Gomoa West parliamentary seat.
The latest comments from TK highlight the internal opposition that could emerge if the broadcaster formally seeks the NDC’s nomination ahead of the next parliamentary election.
