Management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has interdicted two doctors and two nurses in connection with the alleged refusal to provide emergency treatment to a road accident victim who later died of his injuries after being turned away from three hospitals while on an ambulance.

Following public outcry over allegations that the victim was turned away despite being in severe condition, the hospital released a statement on Monday, February 23, 2026, outlining the reasoning. The hospital indicated that the staff members have been temporarily relieved of their duties pending investigations.

Management reports that a committee has been constituted to fully investigate the incident’s circumstances and ascertain whether established emergency care rules were broken. All personnel linked to the case have been directed to cooperate with the investigative process to ensure transparency and fairness.

On February 6, 2026, a hit-and-run accident near the Circle Overpass in Accra left the dead, 29-year-old Charles Amissah, an engineer at Promasidor Ghana Limited, with serious shoulder injuries. He was stabilised by emergency medical services (EMS) personnel and prepared for transfer to a hospital for further treatment.

According to reports, there were not enough beds available for Amissah to be admitted to the Police Hospital, Ridge Hospital, or Korle Bu. He apparently experienced cardiac arrest while at Korle Bu. Although cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was administered, efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was later pronounced dead.
