Black Sherif added another major accolade to his growing list of achievements after winning the Best Hip-Hop Song award at the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards held at the Grand Arena in Accra on Saturday, May 9.
The award-winning rapper and vocalist won the prize with his unvarnished storytelling, street-inspired themes, and powerful delivery of Where Dem Boys, a gritty and emotionally charged song that struck a deep chord with listeners. Some of Ghana’s biggest rap recordings from the year were featured in this category, which was among the most contested of the evening.
Black Sherif’s win was a memorable moment at the ceremony because other nominees included songs from well-known performers in the nation’s booming hip-hop industry.
As his name was announced, cheers erupted across the auditorium, with fans and industry players applauding the artiste’s continued dominance and influence on contemporary Ghanaian music. In the year under review, Dem Boys had tremendous commercial success, garnering high streaming numbers, a lot of radio play, and a lot of social media interaction. The song’s combination of hard-hitting hiphop sound and reflective lyrics also aroused discussions among music enthusiasts.
