President Mahama to Open 77th Annual New Year School in Accra

Accra, January 6, 2026. President John Dramani Mahama is set to officially open the 77th Annual New Year School and Conference (ANYSC) today at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana, Legon, marking one of the country’s most influential platforms for national dialogue and development thinking.

The three-day event running from January 6 to January 8, 2026, is being held under the theme “Building the Ghana We Want Together for Sustainable Development.” This year’s conference brings together policymakers, academics, civil society leaders, industry experts, and young leaders to discuss Ghana’s path to sustainable and inclusive growth.

This school project is also expected to benefit communities that lack adequate educational infrastructure. Many children in rural and underserved areas struggle to access proper classrooms, learning materials, and trained teachers. A newly built school would help reduce overcrowding, improve learning conditions, and encourage higher school attendance among children.

Furthermore, the initiative serves as a reminder that national celebrations should go beyond ceremonies and speeches. They should include meaningful projects that have a long-lasting impact. Investing in education during the 77th New Year celebration sends a strong message that Ghana’s future lies in the hands of well-educated and young supporting youth.

In conclusion, Mahama’s support for building a school as part of the 77th New Year celebration represents a positive step toward national development. By prioritizing education, the initiative promotes unity, progress, and hope for a better future for all Ghanaians.
