The 98th Academy Awards delivered a night of surprises, emotional speeches, and historic wins as the film industry celebrated the best of 2025. Held on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, the ceremony once again captured global attention.

Hosted by Conan O’Brien, the Oscars featured fierce competition, with standout films dominating the awards and shaping conversations across the entertainment world.

The film One Battle After Another emerged as the night’s biggest success, taking home six awards, including the coveted Best Picture.

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the film also secured Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, solidifying its place as the defining film of the year.

Its dominance reflects the Academy’s recognition of bold storytelling and strong cinematic direction.

The acting categories delivered both expected and breakthrough victories:

    • Best Actor: Michael B. Jordan (Sinners)

    • Best Actress: Jessie Buckley (Hamnet)

    • Best Supporting Actor: Sean Penn (One Battle After Another)

    • Best Supporting Actress: Amy Madigan (Weapons)

Jordan’s win marked his first Oscar, while Buckley’s victory was celebrated as a major milestone in her career.

Several films and creators also made headlines across key categories:

    • Best Animated Feature: KPop: Demon Hunters

    • Best International Feature: Sentimental Value

    • Best Documentary Feature: Mr. Nobody Against Putin

    • Best Original Screenplay: Ryan Coogler (Sinners)

    • Best Original Score: Ludwig Göransson (Sinners)

The animated film KPop: Demon Hunters stood out as a cultural milestone, highlighting the global influence of Korean pop culture in mainstream cinema.

Two films led the conversation throughout the awards season:

    • One Battle After Another – The biggest overall winner

    • Sinners – A strong competitor with multiple awards, including Best Actor

Sinners entered the ceremony with 16 nominations, making it one of the most talked-about films of the year.

Meanwhile, Frankenstein also performed well in technical categories such as costume design and makeup.

The Oscars 2026 reflected broader trends shaping the film industry:

    • Diversity in storytelling with international and culturally driven films gaining recognition

    • Streaming-era influence, with globally popular films competing strongly

    • Historic wins, including first-time Oscar victories for several artists
