A dispute has erupted within the United States Branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP-USA) following the disqualification of five aspirants ahead of the branch’s upcoming internal elections.
The affected aspirants are Elijah Amanor Ametei, who is seeking the Branch Secretary position; Nana Akua Musah, Youth Organiser hopeful; Ali Inusah Adams, aspiring Nasara Coordinator; Atta Johnson, contesting for Second Vice Chairman; and Stephen Adjei, who is seeking to become Treasurer.
According to sources close to the affected candidates, the NPP-USA Election Committee disqualified the five aspirants on the grounds that they had failed to pay their membership dues.
However, the aspirants have strongly rejected the claim, insisting that they paid their dues within the stipulated period and possess documentary evidence, including payment receipts, to support their position.
They are reported to have submitted the evidence to the Election Committee, but the committee maintained its decision to disqualify them from the race.
The development has sparked concern among sections of the NPP-USA membership, with some party members questioning the fairness and transparency of the electoral process.
Critics argue that the disqualifications could undermine confidence in the branch elections if the concerns raised by the affected aspirants are not adequately addressed.
Supporters of the disqualified aspirants have appealed to the party’s national leadership to intervene in the matter.
They are calling on the NPP’s Steering Committee, National Executive Committee and National Council to review the decision and ensure due process is followed.
According to them, resolving the dispute promptly will help preserve unity within the NPP-USA branch and safeguard the credibility of the party’s organisational activities among members in the diaspora.
