Nollywood Icon Ogogo’s Daughters Cry Out for Help as Actor Battles Stage 4 Cancer

The daughters of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have made emotional appeals for urgent medical help after revealing that their father is battling stage-four cancer.

The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into sadness after the family of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, revealed that he is battling stage-four cancer. Ogogo’s daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, separately took to social media with emotional appeals, asking medical professionals, hospitals, and anyone with access to cancer specialists to help their father. The family says they are not asking for money, but are desperately searching for medical intervention that could give the 66-year-old actor another chance.

    The Family’s Emotional Appeal

In an emotional video, Lima explained that the family only discovered the seriousness of Ogogo’s condition around three weeks ago. She said his appearance initially gave little indication of how severe his illness was, but his condition has since deteriorated. According to her, some hospitals have reportedly refused to continue treating the actor, prompting the family to turn to the public for help finding a facility or medical professional willing to take on his case. Her sister Kira also broke down while speaking about their father, revealing that doctors had told the family they could no longer continue with chemotherapy. She appealed specifically to cancer specialists and medical facilities with experience treating advanced cancer, asking anyone who could help to contact the family.

They Are Not Asking for Money

One important detail the family has repeatedly stressed is that they are not looking for financial donations. Instead, their appeal is for someone with the medical expertise or connections needed to assess Ogogo and determine whether further treatment options are available. The family also acknowledged the support they have already received from people assisting with the actor’s medical bills. However, a medical doctor has since weighed in on the situation, explaining that stage-four cancer does not necessarily mean doctors have abandoned a patient. He said treatment can shift towards palliative care, which focuses on controlling symptoms and improving quality of life when curative treatment is no longer appropriate. The doctor also cautioned against relying on unproven herbal remedies for cancer, warning that such treatments could cause additional harm.

    Ogogo’s Legacy in Nollywood

Ogogo, 66, is one of the most recognisable faces in Yoruba-language Nollywood. He has spent more than four decades in the entertainment industry and has reportedly appeared in more than 300 movies, establishing himself as one of the veteran figures of Nigerian cinema. News of his condition has therefore generated an emotional response from fans and colleagues who have watched his career for decades. Interestingly, footage from one of his recent public appearances has also resurfaced following the revelation, with fans looking back at how energetic he appeared before the family publicly disclosed the severity of his illness.

Ogogo’s family is now hoping that the public appeal will connect them with specialists or medical facilities that can properly assess his condition and advise on the options available. For a veteran who has spent decades entertaining Nigerians, the news has left many fans praying for his recovery.

Do you think Nollywood and the Nigerian government should have a stronger support system for veteran actors facing serious health challenges?
