Neymar suffers injury days after Brazil World Cup selection

Neymar has reportedly suffered another injury setback just days after his inclusion in Brazil national football team’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The experienced forward for Santos FC has struggled with recurring injury problems in recent years, with the latest issue reportedly affecting his right calf.

According to Santos’ head of medical services, Rodrigo Zogaib, Neymar sustained a two-millimetre edema that has caused swelling in the affected area.

Reports indicate that the injury resulted in his absence from Santos’ 2-2 draw against San Lorenzo in the Copa Sudamericana on Wednesday.

The Brazilian star is also expected to miss upcoming matches against Grêmio in the Brazilian league and Deportivo Cuenca in the Copa Sudamericana.

Despite the setback, reports suggest Neymar is expected to recover in time for the World Cup tournament, where Brazil is set to compete in Group C.

Neymar’s inclusion in Brazil’s squad reportedly came ahead of João Pedro, who had recently received recognition for his performances with Chelsea FC.

The latest development adds to ongoing concerns over Neymar’s fitness, as the veteran forward continues to battle injury challenges at a crucial stage of his career.
