Firefighters from the Weija Fire Station have successfully contained two separate fire outbreaks at Weija and Kasoa within hours of each other, preventing the flames from spreading and rescuing one person.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the Greater Accra Region on Thursday, July 23, the first incident occurred at Weija Sampa Valley in the early hours of Thursday, while the second involved a commercial fire at China Market in Kasoa on Wednesday night.

The first fire broke out at a residence in Weija Sampa Valley. Firefighters received the alert through the Fire Management Centre (FMC) at 5:14 a.m. and arrived at the scene at 5:38 a.m., where they found the blaze actively burning.

The crew immediately began firefighting operations and successfully prevented the flames from spreading to adjoining rooms and nearby buildings.

Although one bedroom and its contents were destroyed, no injuries or fatalities were recorded.

Later, the same fire station responded to a commercial fire at China Market in Kasoa. The distress call was received at 8:53 p.m. on Wednesday, with firefighters arriving at the scene at 9:16 p.m. to find metal containers engulfed in flames.

Additional fire engines from the Anyaa and Swedru fire stations were deployed to reinforce efforts.

The GNFS said the coordinated response brought the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to the main China Market building.

One metal container and its contents were completely destroyed, while a second container sustained partial damage.

During the operation, firefighters rescued an adult male, who was transported to hospital by civilians before firefighting operations were completed.

The Ghana National Fire Service said the causes of both fires remain under investigation.

The Service also commended the swift response and coordination of the firefighting teams and urged the public and business owners to prioritise fire safety measures and report fire outbreaks promptly to minimise damage and save lives.
