GHAMRO to distribute GH¢1.43m in royalties to musicians from July 27

Ghanaian musicians and music rights holders are set to receive a financial boost as the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) prepares to distribute GH¢1.43 million in royalties to eligible beneficiaries.

The first royalty distribution for 2026 is scheduled to begin on July 27, marking another effort by the organisation to ensure creators are compensated for the commercial use of their musical works.

The payment exercise will benefit musicians, composers, producers and other rights holders whose works have generated royalties. For many industry players, royalty payments remain an important source of income and a key incentive for creating and protecting intellectual property.

GHAMRO said the upcoming distribution reflects its commitment to ensuring that creators receive fair financial returns from their work while strengthening confidence in Ghana’s music rights management system.

As part of efforts to improve accountability, the organisation has also introduced new transparency measures for the payment process.

Beneficiaries are expected to receive personalised royalty statements detailing how their payments were calculated, giving them greater insight into the distribution process and improving confidence in the system.

The GH¢1.43 million payout is expected to provide timely financial support for many musicians while reinforcing the importance of protecting intellectual property rights in Ghana’s growing creative industry.

Industry stakeholders will be watching closely as the distribution begins, with many hoping the enhanced transparency measures will further strengthen trust between GHAMRO and rights holders while ensuring creators receive the value they deserve for their work.
