Nana Akua Addo has defended fellow entertainer Dr Likee amid criticism surrounding his appearance on a local Red Carpet, arguing that fashion should not be viewed through a narrow lens.
Speaking about discussions surrounding celebrity fashion during a recent interview, Nana Akua Addo stated that entertainers often use their personalities and creative identities to shape their style choices.
According to her, she saw no issue with Dr Likee’s outfit, explaining that his role as a comedian naturally allows for a more playful and unconventional approach to fashion.
She suggested that his appearance was likely intended to entertain audiences and provoke reactions, stressing that fashion is broad and should not be confined by rigid standards.
Nana Akua Addo, who is widely known for her bold and dramatic fashion statements at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, noted that Red Carpet fashion has evolved beyond simply dressing up and now serves as a major publicity platform for celebrities.
Over the years, her appearances at the AMVCA have generated discussions across the continent, establishing her as one of Africa’s most talked-about fashion personalities.
Touching on criticism surrounding celebrity appearances at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, she argued that public attention often focuses more on controversial outfits while overlooking impressive fashion statements.
According to her, several celebrities appeared in stylish outfits during the event, but those looks received less attention compared to appearances considered unconventional or controversial.
She further suggested that organisers of award events also have a responsibility to influence the quality and direction of Red Carpet conversations by ensuring better curation of the platform and the personalities featured during coverage.
