Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku has urged football fans not to underestimate the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars booked their place at the expanded 48-team tournament and will compete in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
Many football analysts have described the group as one of the toughest in the competition. However, Okraku remains confident that Ghana can compete and achieve success.
Speaking on the Delay Show, the GFA president said football often produces unexpected results.
He noted that strong teams do not always win major tournaments, while less-fancied sides can exceed expectations.
“I have seen bad teams win big tournaments, I have also seen good teams lose big tournaments, and I have seen good teams win big tournaments,” Okraku said.
“So, you can never rule out any football nation, Ghana inclusive. We have a good team, and I want to win the World Cup. That is why we are doing everything possible.”
Okraku’s comments reflect growing confidence within Ghana’s national team setup.
The Black Stars have continued to rebuild in recent years. The team now combines experienced players with several talented young footballers.
Many of these players have impressed for their clubs and the national team.
The GFA believes the current squad has the quality to compete against some of the world’s best teams.
Ghana faces a difficult task in Group L.
England and Croatia are among the favourites to progress from the group. Panama will also hope to secure a place in the knockout stage.
Despite the challenge, Ghana remains focused on making a strong start to the tournament.
The Black Stars will open their World Cup campaign against Panama before facing England and Croatia.

The tournament offers Ghana another chance to make history on football’s biggest stage.
The Black Stars produced their best World Cup performance in 2010 when they reached the quarter-finals in South Africa.
